The first time I met you
was on the ultrasound.
You were still so tiny
with lots of room to move around.
When I met you in person
and you were laid on me.
I looked down at this tiny face
I couldn’t believe you were here for all to see.
Now you have another birthday
and very soon you’ll be three.
I pause and I wonder
when you’re all grown, what will you be?
Did I prepare you enough
when you finally leave the nest?
I hope I taught you right from wrong
and to be your very best.
And I hope you don’t mind
if I call you those baby names.
Cause that’s what is so dearest to my heart
our simple little baby games.
And if soneday you are doing
what I done years ago.
And looking down upon a tiny face
only then will you know.
That there’s no better gift
then a child sent from above.
but perhaps the best gift
is that of a mother’s love
